The Red Pyramid

My friend told me I had to read The Heroes of Olympus series during the autumn break, but someone else had borrowed them from the library so instead I borrowed the Kane Cronicles by the same author, Rick Riordan. I have now finished the first book in the triology, The Red Pyramid.

I think it is a great book and after finishing the Kane Chronicles I think I will re-read the Percy Jackson series, it has been years since I read them.
I like how the book was written, the two main characters, the siblings Sadie and Carter Kane took turns telling the story, they are recording what happened. In the beginning they barely know each other as they only meet twice a year since their mother died six years ago. Carter lives with their father, Julius Kane, who is an archaeologist and they travel the world while Sadie lives with their grandparents in London and has a normal life. When Julius and Carter comes to London for the annual Christmas visit Julius blows up the British museum and Sadie and Carter discover their heritage, Egyptian magicians, blood of pharaohs. That would have been great except that they now have to stop a powerful god, save their dad and the world, if they can save both. The fate of the earth lies in the hands of a twelve years old girl and her fourteen years old brother, their friends the basketball loving baboon, the cowardly cat goddess and another magician who is working with some of the people who are trying to kill them. No need to worry. After being through a number of near death experiences together Carter and Sadie realise that they do love each other, a bit, they know that they wouldn't have made it out of half of those experiences without each other.
They feel a bit older than they are, especially Sadie, she is only twelve but acts like she is maybe fourteen like her brother. There is a lot humor and I often laughed. I think mythology is really interesting and in Riordans books the god are real, Greek gods in the Percy Jackson and the Heroes of Olympus book and Egyptian gods in the Kane Chronicles there is also some hints that all book are in the same world, meaning all gods exist. Rick Riordan is also writing a book about Norse mythology and I telly look forward to it.
Like I said, it is a great book and I have started with the second one and will do a review on that one as well.
